The Raven Trail at Brechfa is a physically demanding ride which requires a good level of fitness and mountain biking experience. The swooping berms and jumps which this trail is known for come into their own when ridden fast and with confidence. Can be tricky in the wet as the fast corners become slippery and unpredictable but with a dry surface this is a lot of fun. There are many sections which you will want to ride again and again. There are some amazingly steep drops allowing you to pick up loads of speed to carry into the next feature. If you can stay off the brakes you will be absolutely flying through some sections of this trail.
The log rides are a fun addition as are the table tops. Its easy to get some big air off these but judging your speed correctly to clear them and set up for the next is a little easier said than done.
There’s a beautiful section of narrow and rooty singletrack right at the top of the trail set in a pleasant area of woodland. This really flows and has a nice, natural feel to it.
Its not all fun and games though. You really have to earn your descents on this trail. There are some steep and prolonged climbs up forest roads which will have you out of the saddle and gasping by the time you reach the top. There are some awesome views though as a reward for all that pain!
Overall, this is a well designed trail with enough variety to keep experienced mountain bikers interested and suitably progressive for intermediate riders to improve their skills. Definitely one to add to the list.
